Photograph from the Smithsonian of Ellet's basket ferry. Ellet was the first engineer hired to build a suspension bridge for the Grand Trunk railway over the Niagara gorge. After building a suspension footbridge over the gorge he left due to a financial dispute with the directors. The bridge was later completed by John A. Roebling.
