Notes
The Grand Trunk Railway Company was formed by a merger of the Quebec & Richmond Railroad Company, the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad Company, the Grand Junction Railroad Company, the Toronto and Guelph Railroad Company and the Grand Trunk Railroad Company of Canada East in 1853. The company created links with the rail system in the United States with the most prominent line being from Sarnia, Ontario to Portland, Maine. In an effort to compete in the transcontinental market they started the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company leading to bankruptcy in 1919 and eventually merged with the Canadian National Railways in 1923.
