Notes
J&L traced its history back to a partnership between the Jones and Lauth families. The Lauth family was bought-out by the Laughlin family early on. In 1900 J&L was the second largest steel producer in the United States, dropping to fourth largest with the large merges that produced US Steel, Bethlehem Steel and Republic Steel. The company was acquired by LTV Corporation in 1968 and was dissolved in 1984 when its assets were merged with Republic Steel.
