Started by Peter Grubb in 1742, this cold-blast charcoal furnace was the heart of a self contained iron plantation. Despite the British effort to restrict iron production, the furnace continued to operate and increase production until 1883, when newer technology using anthracite coal made it obsolete. The site was donated to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, fully intact, in 1932.
