Notes
The company was established with the most up-to-date equipment in 1860. They initially prospered due to contracts to supply the Union army during the Civil War and became the largest employer in the town. By 1905 the print works employed over 3000 people. The company fell on hard times during and after the Great Depression and moved to a smaller facility in 1942. The facility was then purchased by Sprague Electric Company who built components in the facility for both the Manhattan Project and NASA's Gemini Project. The Sprague facility closed in 1985 and is now the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts.
