Notes
The First Falls View Suspension bridge was constructed between the United States and Canada as a joint venture between the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge Company (US) and the Clifton Suspension Bridge Company (Canada). The bridge had 100 ft wooden suspension towers and a wooden deck. The deck of the bridge was only 10 feet wide allowing only one carriage to pass at a time. Renovation work on the bridge began in 1872 which gradually replaced the wooden components of the bridge with steel and by June of 1888 had been widened to 17 feet allowing two-way traffic. The bridge was destroyed in a severe windstorm on the night of January 9th, 1889.
