J. Leander Bishop in \"History of American Manufactures from 1608 to 1860\" gives the date for RIC as 1847.

The Rensselaer Iron Co. produced rail c. 1864 which was used in construction of the Central Pacific Railroad in California and was advertising as early as 1860.
