Notes: In 1914 in Columbus (Ohio) the Ohio Cities Gas Co. was established. In 1920, the name was modified to Pure Oil, and in 1926 its headquarters moved to Chicago. Oil wells and refineries were located in Ohio, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas and Illinois. By the 1960s the company's annual sales grew to over $700 million; employing more than 1,000 people in the Chicago area. In 1965, the Union Oil Co. (CA) purchased Pure Oil.
