Per Sharp & Thomas ("A Guide to the Old Stone Blast Furnaces in Western Pennsylvania" by Sharp, Myron B. and Thomas, William H., published by The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, © 1966), this furnace was built in 1857 by Neff, Dean & Co. The furnace was located in Williamsburg near the river bank. A power substation now stands at the site of the furnace. The furnace was also known as Williamsburg Furnace.
