The longest lived of Uxbridge's textile mills the Stanley Woolen Mill (originally called the Luke Taft Mill). The mill ran into difficulties in the 1970s and closed in 1989. A Canadian speculator attempted to re-open the mill with new equipment, but failed in 1990.
