The site started the operation as the John F. Wiessner Brewery in 1863. The American Malt Company purchased the brewery in 1931, and started the production of malt until the Prohibition Era in March 1933. The company was then purchased by the Fitzsimmons family, who changed the name to \"American Brewery\". The operation closed in 1973, and the facilities remained vacant. The site is today on the National Registry of Historical Places.
In 1992 and 1994, existing damaged buildings were demolished.
